HOVANEC – Andrew L., 92, of Johnstown, passed away February 3, 2026. Born February 5, 1933, in Johnstown, the son of Andrew and Mary (Mihalcin) Hovanec. Preceded in death by parents; son, Andrew Hovanec Jr.; sisters, Helen Machowski, Mary Loncella, Martha Waskovich, Anna Cicon, and Margaret Hovanec; and brothers, John Hovanec, Joseph Hovanec, and infant brother Stephen Hovanec. Andrew is the last surviving member of his immediate family. Survived by his loving children, John M. (Kimberly) Hovanec, James (Veronica) Hovanec, Maryann (Ricky) Manery, Suzanne Hovanec, and Thomas (Renee) Hovanec; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Andrew was a proud United States Air Force veteran. Andrew worked at Bethlehem Steel as a welder for many years before retiring. Andrew also worked at the West End Food Pantry for many years, helping to serve his community. Andrew was a member of the Tremont Club. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, and hunting in his younger years. Andrew also loved playing the guitar and singing with family during the holidays. Andrew was a devoted life-long member of St. Rochus/Resurrection Parish. The family would like to especially thank Andrew's nephew Frank for all the continued help he provided Andrew over the years. Andrew was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and friend. He will truly be missed by many. Friends will be received on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc. from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. at the Francis G. Ozog Funeral Home Inc., Rev George M. Gulash. Committal will follow at St. Stephen's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Andrew’s memory may be made through donations or by donating nonperishable food items to the West End Food Pantry, 1348 Virginia Avenue, Johnstown, PA 15906.
